The Book Thief
The protagonist for The Book Thief is Liesel Memingers. The antagonist is Hitler and the war because they caused the real problems in the story. The story takes place in Nazi, Germany in the 1939. The exposition is "Just as the Fuhrer was about to reply. She woke up. It was January 1939. She was nine years old, soon to be ten. Her brother was dead." Then the rising action is, "Above me, I could hear them. Through the overcast sky, I looked up and saw the tin-can planes. I watched their stomachs open and and the bombs drop casually out. They were often off target, of course. They were often off target." Also, "A small sad hope "No wanted to/bomb Himmel Street,/No one would bomb a/place named after Heaven, would they?/Would they?'
The story is written in 1st, 2nd and 3rd point of view.Tone of the story, when the narrator is talking is dangerous, evil, and creepy, "You are going to die." Explains the tone. Then the mood is nice and truthful, "I am in all truthfulness attempting to be cheerful about the whole topic, though most people find themselves hindered in believing me no matter my proteslation. Please trust me. I most definitely can be cheerful," The external conflict is Jew vs. Hitler. While the internal conflict is stealing the books. She always had the doubt that she would get caught. Liesel always wanted to do the right thing but never could. An irony of the is, "Please trust me. I can definitely can be cheerful. I can be amable, agreeable, affable. And that's only the A's ," The reason is because the narrator is death, and death is normally nice and cheerful. The climax of the book is when Max was on his march to the camp. While the falling action is the bombing of Himmel Street and the book she wrote that saved her life. Plus the death of everyone else except Liesel's The resolution is when Liesel died and she gets the book back that saved her. |
